‘Salutogenic design’ is a term that pertains to medical sociology and involves the solutions that aim at a good lifestyle and the building of beneficial areas for one’s health, in order to reduce the propagation of diseases in the world. During lockdown, Dezeen Magazine – the design platform most followed in the whole world – has interviewed engineers, architects, builders and real estate representatives all over the world in order to understand the desires of those who have had to survive the lockdown period in tiny apartments and in big cities. The answers are simple: availability of a balcony or a veranda, green gardens, community-shared spaces, privacy areas in smaller apartments, high-speed wifi to allow streaming and gaming, furniture and surfaces that are easy to clean, and a well-equipped kitchen.
