Arch. Monica Tessarolo of En Space Network interviews Niccolò Bertocchi, Neveplast cofounder

The roof of the most efficient and cleanest energy converter in the world becomes a ski slope, all made in Italy. This interview shows the details, characteristics and qualities of a unique material that holds numerous international records. On such a material it is possible to ski, even when there is no snow.

This futuristic ski slope is in Copenhagen, on the Copenhill plant designed by BIG design studio. Copenhill is the cleanest and most efficient incinerator in the world. It is able to generate energy for the city of Copenhagen from 440,000 tons of waste produced annually, without leaving any residues. On the roof of Copenhill a ski slope has been built, using Neveplast’s synthetic turf, with 90 metres of altitude and 400 metres of length. Various alpine ski stars have been invited to test the slope, including champion Christian Ghedina.

During the interview, Niccolò Bertocchi explains the technical qualities of a unique material, thanks to which his firm builds ski slopes and other kinds of sports facilities in various countries, on a range of scales. Neveplast is an example of a family business that shows how the “made in Italy” can be an excellence also in this sector, by constantly developing research.
